Step by Step Tutorial (with photos) - How to Customize a Digital Scrapbook Shape

Customizing a digital scrapbook shape, or element, is easier than you may think.  In just a few simple steps, you can go from a having simple black (or any other color) object to having a customized object that you have created to coordinate with a page or kit you are designing.

  1. First, you will need a shape.  You can use either a custom shape provided by photoshop, your own shape, or a scrapbook element template.  You can find many shapes and such for free with a simple internet search.  There are also many freebies available on this blog!
    1.  I am going to use the basic, heart shape for this tutorial.  CustomShapePaper_01
  2. Next, you will need to open the digital paper you wish to use.CustomShapePaper_02
  3. Copy the paper to your clipboard and return to the shape.
  4. Paste the copied paper.  This will create a new layer, and your shape will be completely covered by the paper.
    1. You may need to resize the paper to fit your shape better, depending on the size.CustomShapePaper_03
  5. Next, you will need to right clip on the paper layer and select, "Create Clipping Mask"
    1. Your paper layer will now be "clipped" onto the shape layer below.
  6. Right click on the shape layer and select, "Merge Visible"
  7. Save and enjoy your customized shape!
